It was in 1926 when the Majestic Theatre first opened its doors, earning itself the distinction of being the first “talkies” theatre in the then Northern Malaya. Commissioned by local businessman and philanthropist Khoo Sian Ewe, for whom the street fronting the building is named, the theatre became a favourite hangout for generations of families and friends before its final curtain call in the 1990s.
Abandoned for over a decade, the building fell to ruins before it caught the attention of boutique property developer 1919 Global Sdn Bhd, which then set out to restore the building to its former glory. And thus, the Majestic Penang was born.
Today, the iconic building has been redesigned to feature generous spaces that are perfect for a myriad of diverse events – from dinner functions to sporting tournaments to exhibitions, while retaining its old-world charm.
